What to Consider before Switching Your Major

Did you know about 50% of college students end up changing their major at least once? There are several reasons for this, but the most obvious is that 18 year olds simply don’t know what they want to do for the rest of their life when they first enter college. It takes a few semesters of studying and some growing up before they can settle on the right major for their needs.

Whether you wish to get away from that educational leadership degree or you’re really interested in getting a psychology degree, here are a couple things to consider before switching your major.

 1. The first thing you need to ask yourself is if the new major is really what you want to focus on. Is it something you’re good at? Are you passionate about it? What career options are available with a degree in this field? Answer all of these questions to make sure you make the right choice.

2. You also need to figure out what the requirements are for switching to a new major. You may have to go back to take some more preliminary classes. The best way to sort this out is to discuss it with your counselor.
