When Brand Name Matters in Education

Some students insist that they have to go to an Ivy League school or they aren’t going to make it in life. Others say that the quality of the education matters more than the name on the school’s letterhead. The truth is that both things are true. It is important to go to the school that is right for you regardless of whether or not it ranks high on school ranking lists but there are certain times when the brand name of a school really does matter.

A recognized name has become that way not because of some sort of popularity contest but because the school is a good school. For example, someone interested in the CA Culinary Arts can benefit from going to one of the Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Programs because these programs are tried-and-tested and they have been proven to teach cooking students what they need to know. Untested, newer CA culinary schools may not do that.

Ultimately, yes, you do have to choose a school that is right for you and that will have the quality of education that you are seeking in the field of your choosing. But you do have to recognize that people who want to provide you with jobs may seek to do so only if you can prove that you have received your education at a place that they know is good at teaching you what they want you to know.
