School project on the future

culinary schoolsWhen my 15 year old came home from school complaining about a project she had to do for economics class, I offered to help her as much as I could.  She had to pick out a couple of careers that interested her and write about what she would need to do to work in each field.  It was really the first time she had thought about what she wanted to do after high school and I could tell that it was freaking her out a bit.

I told her to take a day to really think about what she liked doing to see if she could turn it into a career.  She thought about it and we sat down to discuss it.  She really likes drawing so she decided the first career she would look into was being an artist.  She hopped on line and looked up some information on different art schools, how long the programs were, how much they cost and what the different job prospects were.

She was also starting to love to cook, so she figured a course in culinary arts would also be something that she would be interested in.

She finished the project and more important than the final mark, it got her thinking about her future.
